Where has the Summer gone?

Autumn has already rounded the corner bringing shorter days and time changes, falling back for an extra hour of sleep. Our dogs wake at 5am, time frame to them hasn't changed, making longer days for the humans. Apparently a quick out, treat and saying '1 hour' helps them sleep and us not, but we can rest and plan for the day.

Zonta Holiday Fair is this weekend (November 14 & 15, 2015) at the Ramkota Inn/Pierre SD. Bab's Bites 'n Bones will be there, we've asked for the same area. If you're out and about, stop by, say hi. We'll have ornaments in various shapes, stocking stuffers' and our always fun Barkers Dozen and message bone bags. All our treats are handcut, homemade, 'spiked' with homemade beef and chicken broth. Our dogs are worth it, we think yours are too.

Name plate ornaments
We do create name plate ornaments. We sell at $3 each, Dimensions are 6 inches long and 2 inch wide. We ship our product. Our contact information is at the top of  the blog. Feel free to contact us, email is best. Treats take up to a week to dry, please plan accordingly. We don't bake dog treats the week of Christmas. We bake human treat gifts for family and friends.

Friday the 13th is crisp and a cool 22 degrees this morning. We have yet to insulate our home in a few areas and then we will be ready for Winter. If we have a wonderful warm three months, we would be okay with that forecast. Buster, our insulin diabetic Westie, continues to do well. He is regulated. His eyesight has diminished, but other senses have picked up. He wonders what is in store for our day, he is ready for a ride that doesn't include the vet's office and we are already running behind.

We search for Brandi, a Springer Spaniel, that ran with her sister June 13, 2015 in Pierre, SD.  Her sister returned and Brandi didn't. Brandi is 4-5 years old. White with liver patches. Red collar and tag. She had a rope lead on her, but has been seen without it. With information provided by the family, and ok given by the family, we have hung posters, given to residents in 'last seen' areas. Someone may have taken her in without knowing she was missing, but she has her collar and tags on. In hopes we can find her soon, her recent sighting has kept her far from home. If she would turn around and walk back as far as she has gone, she would be home. Please help those that need extra, from shelter, food and water. Patience to gain their trust. We continue to do our part, getting families back together.

Take care friends.

Buster's Breakfast

Bitten...forgiven.
July 29, 2015 our West Highland Terrier was diagnosed with diabetes. Insulin is the only way to regulate and for dogs, it can take months. We are half way there, beginning our sixth week and Buster can tell you, its been long. We give him two shots, after breakfast and again after supper. We're getting quicker, incentive of treats is most helpful and he likes fresh veggies. We let him smell the capped syringe and make sure the insulin isn't cold. We read daily and have learned much.  Injections are in his hip area. He can still reach us and we need to be quicker. Each week coming up with a new idea.

Coming back.
Sometimes he's lethargic, but as the weeks have gone by, we once again see characteristics of his breed return. He initiates play, runs to the gate and barks at passing big brown trucks. He has even surprised himself by jumping from his chair onto hardwood floors. His legs go out from underneath, quickly getting up as we run back into the room. "Impatient today?"

Carlee watches from afar
How can we not help him, he's family. Gravity is taking advantage. His nightly massages prove loose skin and counting of ribs. We can now feel his butt bones. Diabetes, once regulated, will gain some weight back. We pray that is soon. Us girls visited, Carlee helps out.

The vet and the girls that work at the clinic dote on him while he is there. He  climbs onto the scale by himself. He does better each day. In time. There is a verse in the song, "The Other Side" 'On the other side of doubt is faith; on the other side of pain lies strength; the journey may seem endless when you know the road is rough, but on the other side of fear is love.'   This is doable.

Have a good week friends, help those that cross your path that need some help. We'll continue to do the same.

Farmers Markets humming across the country.

Friend Ginger takes a treat
We follow several farmers markets from Canada Maritimes, East Coast, Florida to the West Coast and Minnesota. We like to expand our horizons. We are interested in their seasons and what is brought to their markets. From fruits, produce, baked goods, steady stand ideas and creative gardens. Correspondence has been fun, our aim is the same, have fun, label baked goods (its state law) and give the customer the best and freshest.

You are welcome to leash your dogs and come on down. Often times there are several four-footed friends. We want everyone to enjoy the family atmosphere. Please keep your critters close and at edge of produce stands. Its all workable when working together.

One of few fresh baked human treats
We get up early morning to bake human treats, often still warm when we get to the market. Though early callers, our market cowbell rings in at 9:00am and we close up at noon.

Lady from WY  stops for a treat!
So, mark your calendars, the Capitol City Farmers' Market opens Saturday, May 30, 2015 Downtown Pierre, SD. Corner of Sioux/Coteau at the Free parking lot.

We are happy our paths have crossed.

March is finally here...

We love the longer days, sun up and out by 6:45am and stretch 12 hours later to sunset. In just a few weeks, we'll lose that extra hour of sleep, but the trade off, of yet longer days is soooo worth it!

Valentine's Day we drew names from all our Page Likes from Bab's Bites 'n Bones Facebook page. Quite a variety, many people we didn't know, which is so neat! Small and medium treats were shipped closer to Canada, East Coast and far South. Closer to home, we shipped to South Dakota towns, Highmore, Sioux Falls and delivered local in Pierre. Our Valentine's are our world, we just figured, your Valentine's might be the center of your worlds too.

April starts craft fairs and May will bring the farmer's market.
We have a list of new items for human treats, fresh baked and we'll be happy to see you. Leash your dogs and come on down. Til then, if you need treats, give us a call, email or message. For convenience, Bliss and Sweet Peas has a place for our treats at the St. Charles in Pierre.

As always, help critters that cross your path, we continue to do the same.
Enjoy your week and we'll see you soon.
