We're expanding...

One would think by another body and it is in feet, however, we are expanding the run for the kids. It'll give them shade and they can be almost with me when working in the yard, just a thin wire away. Just not sure how the snow will fill in or if it'll blow through, I do know that Casey, the BIG blonde lab won't be able to jump in.

I was talking with Mr. Ripley this past weekend at the market about harvest and how it's coming along in his part of the country. Wheat is near down. My Dad was a grain elevator manager all of my life and most all of his. Harvest was busy, we rarely saw him. Mom would make hot meals and deliver, he'd give us a hug and a quick hello.
His days began before sunrise and often ended well into the night.

Our family had a 1 acre garden with other families growing potatoes, zuchini, cucumbers, muskmelon and watermelons. The watermelons would crack from ripeness and the taste would drip down our chin's. My brother and I were the only kids, we worked hard and were good pickers. The harvest was plenty, laborers were few...

One thing was missing, a dog. Well, they're not missing anymore.
Enjoy your week friends!

Shorter days...already!

August brings shorter days and everything we want to do on weekends is packed tightly, at times little of each gets done or nothing of something does. It makes sense, it's not just the heat.

The morning is no longer lit at 6am and it is dark enough at 8:30pm to be hammering outside without a flashlight. It's difficult enough with small nails much less holding a flashlight too. Our list continues to grow, but baking is almost always a given and tomorrow early we begin. The kids are waiting for a ride and a walk, we'll see where that leads and what the humidity brings.

What have you been doing? We hear from you on Market days or in passing on the street, a wave or hello. Life is busy, slow down if you can, enjoy time for you and your critters. Buster can be in any part of the house he wants, I look down and he rests easy. Always close.
Enjoy your week friends, cooler temps are coming.
